ChatGPT 3 /OpenAI
Science fiction. Now science fact. What ChatGPT means for the future. What ChatGPT means for search engines. What AI and ML means for the human race.
Our options are endless
We all know how ChatGPT responds if you ask, 'Please explain what you are' (Yes, I'm being polite incase they do, indeed, take over the world) ChatGPT responds 'I am an AI language model designed to generate human-like responses to text-based inputs. My technology is based on natural language processing and machine learning algorithms, which enable me to understand and respond to a wide range of questions and prompts in a way that mimics human conversation'
And with the staggered access to Google Bard, things are hotting up.
But did you realise that the concept of AI and intelligent machines has been a common theme in science fiction books for decades. Authors have explored the idea of machines and robots becoming sentient and surpassing human intelligence, often with disastrous consequences. Some notable examples include 'Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?' by Philip K. Dick, 'I, Robot' by Isaac Asimov, and 'The Terminator' by James Cameron.
Philip K. Dick is one of my favourite authors. In recent years, the development of AI and machine learning technologies has become increasingly prevalent in our daily lives. From personal assistants like Siri and Alexa to recommendation algorithms used by social media platforms and e-commerce sites, we are constantly interacting with 'intelligent' machines. This rapid advancement of technology has led to a world that would have seemed like science fiction just a few decades ago.
Even back in the 80s, when I first got my hands on a ZX Spectrum, I never dreamed that we would have the technology we have today.
As an AI language model, ChatGPT is an example of this technology that has crept up on us and has become a part of our daily lives. People use ChatGPT to search for information, generate text for various purposes, and even as a tool for language translation. Its capabilities would have seemed impossible just a few decades ago, but thanks to advancements in AI and machine learning, they are now a reality.
I did some digging around to find some info. on how many people are using ChatGPT and according to Life Architect io, in Jan/2023, ChatGPT is probably outputting at least the equivalent of the entire printed works of humanity every 14 days. Even if this is way off, it's still impressive.
I personally think that in the near (very-near) future, there will be an explosion of AI related content. Both full content and AI assisted and enriched content.
You can get to try ChatGPT3 here. Sign up and you're off.
Here are just a few things which makes ChatGPT useful in the data engineering and business intelligence spectrum:
Speedier, boiler plate code
Get an initial coding idea for various technologies to allow comparison
A developer issue with how to use certain tools or languages
Boiler plate copy (but DO update it to make it yours)
Cooking recipes
Remember though, to take ChatGPT's answers with a pinch of salt. It was trained (as far as I can tell) on data from the 'Internet', so in essence not everything will be correct, and hopefully the answers are balanced. (This might seem obvious, but I wanted to make the point clear, I can't be held responsible for any actions taken on using ChatGPT)
I like to think of it as a concise and mostly highly focused search engine.
So let's see what happens in the next year or so. With compute power increasing and more readily available than any other time in history, we're in exciting times.
"I'll be back"
